Breaking the Barrier: For Boyz Only

PNC Arts Alive and The Florida Ballet will present Breaking the Barrier: For Boyz Only, a celebration of community and the male dancer on Thursday, March 15, 6:30 pm, at LaVilla School of the Arts.

The performance will feature male students from Young Men’s Leadership Academy, Henry F. Kite, Matthew Gilbert, and James Weldon Johnson Middle Schools who have participated in a 20-week program incorporated into their school day that introduces boys to the art of dance.

In addition to the participating schools, performances from students at The Florida Ballet Conservatory and Training Center will be presented. A special appearance by nationally acclaimed performer Carlos Garland will round out the evening.

Breaking the Barrier: For Boyz Only is a multilevel educational and performance project providing an opportunity to middle-school aged boys to gain exposure to the art of dance.

The project is funded by a grant received through PNC Arts Alive. PNC made a three-year commitment to fund arts initiatives in Northeast Florida through the Arts Alive program. The Florida Ballet is a proud 2017 recipient.

This special performance will be held on Thursday, March 15, 6:30 pm at LaVilla School of the Arts, 501 N Davis Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202. Admission is free.
