Once all the preparations are complete, the holidays are the perfect time to slow down a bit and connect with our loved ones, friends, and communities. It’s also the time of year when volunteering is a powerful way to boost well-being. Even the simplest act of volunteerism can be an essential reminder of what it means to live well.
Shops of San Marco
Centrally located in the sprawling city of Jacksonville, San Marco offers charm, culture, and culinary delights. Its combination of cosmopolitan and small-town southern sensibility makes you realize you have stumbled upon a gem. The close-knit community and familial ties of San Marco run deep. The majority of businesses in San Marco are either family-run or independently owned. As San Marco approaches its centennial birthday, we thought we’d highlight a few stories behind this Jacksonville hot spot and celebrate what makes this neighborhood so unique. Our article represents a mere fraction of the dozens of quality boutique shops in and around San Marco Square (page 38).
Shop Local Gift Guide
Independent local businesses always need our support. In thinking of things to make your dearest people smile, try to shop your values. Each year, Arbus Magazine presents our “Shop Local Gift Guide” so that you can see what locally owned businesses are offering and be inspired (page 45).
Gainesville’s Hidden Gem
People often think of Gainesville as a college town surrounded by natural wonders and cold springs. Yet, it’s so much more. Gainesville has a strong and vibrant art scene that embraces the arts on almost every street corner. The Harn Museum is one of the largest university art museums in the South and the University of Florida’s Phillips Center hosts well-known musicians such as Pink Martini (coming January 15, 2025).
Another thing you might be surprised to discover is the Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation Foundation. This is one of my most exciting new discoveries. For those with a love for animals, see for yourself starting on page 26.
Soak in the tradition and sparkle of the season while reading through our holiday issue.
