Jacksonville Symphony Takes Music Beyond the Symphony Hall

“Where will the music take you?” Although the Jacksonville Symphony’s season theme is meant as a reference to each individual’s unique experience when listening to music, the symphony is also taking it quite literally. With almost five-hundred ensemble opportunities available between the symphony and the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestras, the team is prepped and ready to take the experience of music all across Jacksonville.
“Our mission is to enrich the human spirit through symphonic music,” says Jacksonville Symphony President & CEO Robert Massey. “This is not only about the experience produced in Jacoby Symphony Hall, but also in the hundreds of concerts given in schools, libraries, restaurants, places of worship, assisted living facilities, hospitals and other venues throughout Northeast Florida.”
So where in the community can you hear the Jacksonville Symphony this season? Starting in 2018-2019, the orchestra has partnered with local restaurants to add a little bit of flair to the popular Regency Centers Symphony in 60 Series. Produced three times a season, Symphony in 60 gives audiences an abbreviated, one-hour program featuring a classical masterpiece bookended by happy hours. The first, starting an hour before the program, is hosted in the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts. The second, after the concert, will take place in one of three downtown locations: Cowford Chophouse, Intuition Ale Works and Bellwether. Cowford Chophouse has even extended the relationship by hosting three other symphony ensembles throughout the season and creating a signature “Stir Your Soul” cocktail, where a portion of the proceeds benefit the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestras.
Those who are traveling to and from Jacksonville during the 2018-2019 season might find their airport experience enhanced by the presence of an ensemble from the Jacksonville Symphony serenading their way through the terminal. In December, patients, family, loved ones and doctors at Mayo Clinic will have their holiday season warmed with symphonic music.
A fan of Downtown Jacksonville’s Art Walk? The symphony is slated to have ensembles at three Art

Walks, the first on October 3. At Art Walk, instead of one ensemble, the orchestra will send three to different locations throughout the Art Walk festivities. If you visit all three, you can win a voucher for concert tickets!
Although these are the concerts that are open to the public, there are countless other ensembles that take place in venues, such as local schools, that are for specific audiences. The Jacksonville Symphony is continually dedicated to reaching audiences who may not have the ability to travel all the way to Jacoby Symphony Hall. Symphonic music is for audiences of all ages, backgrounds and levels of music education. Music is something that everyone can enjoy, in all different ways.
