Alexis’ Art Show Dream

… Coming true at The Cummer

Eighteen-year-old Alexis’ first surgery was in December, 2018, when doctors removed a pineapple-sized tumor from her left ovary. Months later, she had two more surgeries to stop internal bleeding and remove the rest of the tumor, which had metastasized. Since then, she has endured various inpatient and outpatient treatments, including twelve months of chemotherapy.

But what Alexis wants you to know about her is that she is creative and has always dreamed of sharing her creativity by exhibiting her art. Dreams Come True of Jacksonville, The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, and sponsor Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Network Realty are making this dream a reality. Alexis will show her work in The Cummer’s Uible Loggia on January 22, 2020.

Alexis shared this dream with Dreams Come True of Jacksonville, who planned the event with The Cummer. Since 1984, Dreams Come True has helped more than four thousand First Coast children who are battling life-threatening illness see a dream turned into reality. Dreams have ranged from trips to Disney World to shopping sprees in New York City, or the adoption of a new furry friend. Currently, four hundred children are in the process of deciding on their perfect dream. The organization says that fulfilling these dreams can “bring hope and light to families facing some of their darkest days, and can give these amazing children the strength to defy the odds.” To date, Dreams Come True has never denied an eligible child a dream or started a waiting list.

Since children’s illnesses and struggles, unfortunately, don’t end with dream fulfillment, Dreams Come True developed the Special Times Program to bring them and their families moments of joy and distraction. Such moments include tickets to events, holiday assistance, or birthday parties.

Join Alexis at her museum exhibition and be part of a dream fulfilled.

Alexis’ Art Show Dream, 5 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22, at The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, 829 Riverside Ave., 356-6857.
