Arlington Mod & More Home Tour

October 11 & 12

Experience some of Jacksonville’s most iconic mid-century modern and historic homes. Tour homes from quirky to fabulous, quaint beauties to riverfront estates. Now enjoying a resurgence in popularity, especially among younger homeowners, mid-century modern architecture became popular after WWII through the 1970s. This minimalistic, functional style features open floor plans, clean lines, muted curves, large windows, and indoor-outdoor living spaces. Arlington, Jacksonville’s fastest-growing area after the construction of the Mathews Bridge in 1953, boasts an impressive concentration of mid-century modern architecture. Check in and pick up your Home Tour Guide at Historic Norman Studios, 6337 Arlington Road, Jacksonville. A tour of this unique museum is included with your ticket purchase. Founded in 1916 as Eagle Film City and purchased by Richard E. Norman in the early 1920s, Norman Studios was among the nation’s first to produce “race films” starring African American characters in positive, non-stereotypical roles. This five-building complex is the sole studio remnant of Jacksonville’s heyday as the Winter Film Capital of the World and one of just two Northeast Florida sites designated as National Historic Landmarks. Saturday, October 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, October 12, 12 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 (fees additional), and free for children under 12. Benefitting Old Arlington, Inc. (OAI). OAI is committed to the preservation and revitalization of Arlington, one of Jacksonville’s most historically significant communities. Interested in volunteering? Becoming a sponsor? OAI membership? Have a classic 1950s, 60s or 70s car you’d like to show off at one of the tour homes?
