The School of Music, a flagship program at the University of North Florida, is celebrating the 31st anniversary of its Great American Jazz Series, a special component of the Jazz Studies Program that brings popular, talented jazz artists to campus.

Seeing the Light
If there is one tenet that Stellers Gallery at Ponte Vedra (Stellers PV) owner Hillary Whitaker holds fast to, it is this: “Great artwork will always speak for itself.” Whitaker and her gallery director, Courtney Tinnesz Hill, are highlighting two painters in their spring show that they say they personally never tire of seeing – Laura Lacambra Shubert, who has been with the gallery for twenty-two years, and Erin Gregory, who joined Stellers in 2016. These are two painters whose work quickly becomes recognizable, with an approach to painting and subject matter that evokes an aesthetic response effortlessly.
Watercolor Windows
“Art is the window to man’s soul,” former First Lady Claudia ‘Lady Bird’ Johnson said. “Without it, he would never be able to see beyond his immediate world; nor could the world see the man within.” Man’s relationship with nature has always been a balancing act, and with technology making our immediate world so fraught with busyness, it can be difficult to turn our attention outward. But local artist Kathy Starks has created a project that both upholds Johnson’s quote and Stark’s own desire to “… create a window to the natural world through which the viewer has a heightened awareness of its beauty,” as described in her artist statement.
