Douglas Anderson School of the Arts’s 38th Extravaganza

February 10, 2023

Plans are underway for Douglas Anderson School of the Arts’s 38th Extravaganza, an evening of top student performances, showcases, and a hundred-piece gallery opening. It all takes place on February 10, Friday night at the Moran Theater in the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts.

Douglas Anderson School of the Arts’s 38th Annual Extravaganza is an incredible showcase of art, creativity, and inspiration that is seen in the stellar performances of over 580 music, theater, dance, film, and creative writing students each year. The evening always includes several cross-departmental collaborations as well as a dynamic exhibition of works by Douglas Anderson (DA) visual arts students.

Each year DA’s Extravaganza is performed in the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts to a sellout crowd of 2,400. It is a celebration of the arts and the opportunities provided for students to get intensive arts training. The evening is also a way to share the powerful impact of arts education with the community of Northeast Florida.

This year’s Shining Star is Chase Finn, a 2009 Cinematic Arts graduate who is successfully making a living as a professional artist and has won numerous national film awards for his work.

A special thanks goes to Delores Barr Weaver whose Forever Event Fund helps underwrite this truly exceptional celebration. This year’s Honorary Chair is Nina Waters with Gary McCalla graciously serving as the Event Chair for the 17th year.

DA is one of the educational crown jewels of our community, providing an outstanding education in the performing, visual, and creative arts as well as in academics. DA graduates go on to attend our nation’s finest arts institutions, conservatories, and universities and then join outstanding dance, music, and theater companies.  They publish, teach, and exhibit internationally in museums and galleries. Many of DA’s graduates return to our community as working artists and arts supporters, enriching the First Coast immeasurably.  If you have never attended an Extravaganza, you are in for a treat.
