Angelic sculpture honors memory of young dancer
By Kate A. Hallock
An accomplished dancer with Village Dance Center in Ortega for 12 years, Allison performed in both the Community Nutcracker and the First Coast Nutcracker productions, was a cheerleader for the Bolles School, and served as an acolyte at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. She was a direct descendant of Columbus Drew, a founding father of the city of Jacksonville and founder of H. Drew Printing Company in 1855, a company still operating on the Southside as Wells and Drew.
In April 2009, the teen tragically lost her life in an automobile accident. While grappling with their grief, Allison’s family established the Allison Brundick Haramis Foundation a year later in her memory. Also known as Angels for Allison, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization provides financial aid for funeral expenses to families suffering the loss of a child while also grappling with a lack of funds to lay their loved ones to rest.
“Allison’s joy is beautifully represented through this work, and we hope this
piece serves as a beacon
of hope to families who
have lost children.”
