IN HERE/OUT THERE

Streaming online every Tuesday from Oct. 6 to Dec. 1

Jacksonville Dance Theatre (JDT), Jacksonville’s own critically acclaimed professional modern dance company, announces a fresh new take on their annual solo concert.  Presenting IN HERE/OUT THERE, a series of digitally streamed solo works created by commissioned  JDT dancers “in here”  in collaboration with a partner “out there” in the world. The solos will stream weekly on Tuesdays starting on October 6 until December 1. See them on the JDT Instagram and YouTube accounts at no cost to the viewer.

In an effort to connect and stay connected, dancers were given a prompt in the creation of a new choreographic work—the need to reach out and make art during a time of social distance, physical isolation, collective trauma, collective celebration, and life’s uncertainty. They were asked to pair with another non-JDT choreographer: an artist of another art genre such as a musician, writer, or actor or an interesting collaborator of a different type, such as a scientist, engineer, mathematician, or ecologist. They would then create the work virtually using Zoom and other means.

Grounded in JDT’s mission is the essence of the creative exchange of ideas, images, and works that invite curiosity and communication and ask us to examine our individual and shared humanity. In asking dancers to create new choreographic works, JDT offers a unique opportunity for artistic discovery, collaboration, and storytelling.

IN HERE/OUT THERE’s concert of solos can be viewed on JDT’s Instagram, @JDTheatre, and YouTube Channel, Jacksonville Dance Theatre.

Tickets are free, but suggested donations are accepted at jacksonvilledancetheatre.org/friendsofjdt-giving.
