Jax by Jax seeks to show this city how its writers are writing it; to show Jacksonville its own thriving writing scene; and to introduce the city to its own literary voice. In 2014, its inaugural year, Jax by Jax brought out five hundred people to see fourteen featured writers. In 2015, Jax by Jax will feature twenty-two writers in eleven venues around the intersection of Park and King Streets in central Riverside.
Participating venues include The Annex Bar, Beer:30, Cool Moose Cafe, Flaire Celebrations, Jacksonville Magazine, Nourish: A Juice Café, Paperwhite Salon, Riverside Liquors, Silver Cow Watering Hole, Sunday Tattoo Gallery, and Superhero Hive Comic Book Store.
Featured writers include Fred Dale, Monica DePaul, Tangela Floyd, Sohrab Fracis, Liz Gibson, Tim Gilmore, Matthew Lany, Jordan Logue, Johnny Masiulewicz, Tiffany Melanson, Emily K. Michael, Carol O’Dell, G.M. Palmer, Marcus Pactor, Heather Peters, H.K. Rainey, Raleigh Rand, Andres Rojas, Michaela Tashjian, Jeff Whipple, April Gray Wilder, and Hurley Winkler.
Wander from venue to venue. Have a drink. Come hear a playwright, then a poet, then a novelist, and in the process visit a gift shop, a coffeehouse, the offices of a magazine. Buy a t-shirt, nosh on some vegetarian snacks, and listen to poetry in the shaded back courtyard of a Riverside bungalow. And do it all in any order you want. Choose your own adventure.
3–7 p.m., 11 venues, Park & King, Riverside. After party and book-signing ($10), Evervess Art Studio, Rosselle & King. www.jaxbyjax.com, 616-3884.
