Loving Beethoven

March 6 – May 27

In 2020, the world will celebrate Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday anniversary. The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach, in partnership with MIMMA (Interactive Music Museum in Malaga, Spain), is paying tribute to this milestone thanks to the traveling musical installation, Loving Beethoven.

Cultural Center Director Donna Guzzo visited the museum in Malaga, Spain, to start discussions with the MIMMA Director, Miguel Angel Piedrola. Guzzo requested the collaboration with MIMMA to develop a program that will showcase music-related activities and host the exhibit in the United States at the Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach. The interactive nature of the MIMMA exhibits, with galleries full of musical instruments which the public is encouraged to touch and try, is one of the traits the Cultural Center is looking to replicate during the exhibit in Florida.

“Loving Beethoven ties together the Cultural Center’s mission and the Center’s outreach program, Sound Connections® Music Therapy, perfectly,” says Guzzo. “We are thrilled to be working with Miguel Angel Piedrola and MIMMA on our first collaborative, international project.”

MIMMA’s design team has created this installation for the Cultural Center using sizable individual spheres that when hugged, allow you to feel Ludwig van Beethoven’s music through vibration. The spheres change color when touched, which creates a unique sensorial and immersive experience. The installation is meant to bring the user closer to the music in a therapeutic way. Thanks to the novelty of the exhibition, it demonstrates the capacity in all of us to enjoy music. Loving Beethoven is an original music therapy experience, accessible, personal, and unique. The exhibition will also include programs for activities that highlight artists and creators from Malaga, Spain. .

Reception March 6 at the Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach, 50 Executive Way, 280-0614.
