Jeff Gardner, the director of the Springfield Improvement Association and Archives holds a copy of a photograph of model Audrey Munson that is believed to be the model for the woman in the Women of the Confederacy monument in Springfield’s Confederate Park. After a tip from a member of one of his historic tours who claimed family ties to the figure in the Women of the Confederacy monument, Gary Sass began trying to confirm if the model for the monument in Jacksonville’s Confederate Park was Audrey Munson, a prominent model for sculptors and the subject of numerous prominent sculptures in the North Eastern United States. He has been working with Chris Farley, the treasurer of the Springfield Improvement Association and Archives and Jeff Gardner, the organization’s director as they piece together documents and stories tying Audrey Munson to the Jacksonville monument.
