The Jacoby Comes of Age
The Robert E. Jacoby Symphony Hall opened on April 27, 1997, fundamentally transforming downtown Jacksonville in the process. Until then, the symphony had no dedicated home of its own. With seating for 1,800 within an acoustically perfect space, the Jacoby incorporates state-of-the-art technology and design characteristics that rival its counterparts in musical capitals throughout the world. It was, and remains, a symphonic home for the long term. And like most twenty-two-year-olds, it is just hitting its stride.

On April 5th and 6th, Jacksonville Symphony Music Director Courtney Lewis will be joined on stage by internationally acclaimed violinist Jennifer Koh for Sergei Rachmaninoff’s hauntingly beautiful Symphony No. 2. “Where will the music take you?” Although the Jacksonville Symphony’s season theme is meant as a reference to each individual’s unique experience when listening to music, the symphony is also taking it quite literally. With almost five-hundred ensemble opportunities available between the symphony and the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestras, the team is prepped and ready to take the experience of music all across Jacksonville.
Where Will the Music Take You?
At an early age, I discovered the transformative power of music. Growing up in a military household, we moved around quite often, and unfortunately, most of those transitions were very difficult. Starting a new life in a strange city every three years was fraught with anxiety.
My anchor through all of this was music.
