Celebrate 25 Years of Expanding the Stage
A landmark Silver Jubilee Season honors the extraordinary journey of a Jacksonville-born ensemble while opening the door to its next quarter-century.
Twenty-five years ago, the Ritz Chamber Players (RCP) opened a door that classical music had kept too narrow for too long. Through it came extraordinary Black musicians, overlooked masterworks, new music, and audiences invited to hear the classical tradition with fresh ears.
What began in Jacksonville as a bold vision has grown into an ensemble of national distinction—and a declaration of excellence revealed more fully.
During the 2026–27 Silver Jubilee Season, RCP will celebrate that journey through five concerts united by its founding mission: “Expanding the Stage.”
This phrase is more than an anniversary theme. It is RCP’s artistic inheritance, cultural purpose, and promise for the future.
To expand the stage is to place exceptional Black classical musicians not at the margins, but at the center. It is hearing Beethoven, Brahms, and Ravel alongside William Grant Still, Florence Price, George Walker, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson—as essential voices within a more truthful musical story. It is to commission today’s composers, prepare tomorrow’s artists, welcome new audiences, and carry world-class chamber music into the community.
“This anniversary is not simply an opportunity to look back,” says Terrance L. Patterson, RCP’s founder and executive and artistic director. “It is a moment to honor the artists, audiences, partners, and community members who carried this vision forward—and to dream even more boldly about what the next 25 years might hold. After a quarter-century, the stage is still expanding.”
