The Power Within
Art with a Heart in Healthcare (AWAHIH) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides group and bedside art sessions to children and adults in the hospital setting. We were founded in 2001 and have brought the power of art to over 125,000 patients and their families. We are excited to observe our 14th year of partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville in presenting the exhibit “The Power Within.” The exhibit opening will be held on Sunday, September 15, from 2 – 4 p.m. This event is free to the public. The exhibit will run until January 12, 2025.
“The Power Within” embodies the idea that inner strengths such as compassion, creativity, and courage are our true superpowers. With guidance from Art with a Heart in Healthcare artists-in-residence, the patient artists envisioned superhero versions of themselves, highlighting the unique qualities and abilities that distinguish their individuality beyond their diagnosis. Through their participation in this project, children and adolescents were able to express themselves, enhance their technical art skills, and build self-confidence, all of which contributed to their healing during difficult times. As a result, they came to understand that, despite the challenges of their medical conditions, they could still draw on their inner strengths to inspire others and bring about meaningful change
