A Brush With Nature

march 24 – 25
The Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens (JAG) and First Coast Plein Air Painters host this juried plein air painting event. “We’re excited to bring back this event after a one-year absence,” says Patty Miller, Brush With Nature event committee chair and JAG board member. “The last event in 2015 gathered over thirty of the region’s finest landscape artists, who set up their easels to capture the essence of the Arboretum’s beautiful settings. We expect just as many fine artists this year.”

Admission is free, with donations to the arboretum encouraged, and all works of art created at the event are available for sale – with proceeds benefiting the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens and First Coast Plein Air Painters.

Visitors can stroll along the trails to watch and interact with artists as they work. There will also be artists’ demonstrations, guided nature walks, food, live music and art activities for children. First Coast Plein Air Painters member Gail Beveridge, who previously served as a member of the JAG board of directors, says the event is designed to allow artists to paint their favorite scenes from locations throughout the 120-acre site. There will also be painting activities for children available from noon to 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

“The artwork is very affordable and offers a wide range of sizes and media, from watercolors, acrylics and oils to pastels,” Beveridge says. “It’s a great event, giving art and garden lovers the opportunity to purchase an original painting and take home a lasting memory of the Arboretum, one that can be enjoyed for many years to come, and also helps the nonprofit venue fund needed maintenance and operation of the gardens.”

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
